best places to visit in kefalonia

Do you want to know why Greece is the best summer destination in 2021? Are you looking for THE best islands to visit in Greece? If yes then keep reading. I am one of the biggest fans of Greece. I think it has an amazing climate, beautiful nature, and interesting ancient history. A long time ago as I was a little girl I had this little book called ”500 Greek Islands” and right there and then I fell inlove with Greece.

Honestly, it doesn’t matter if you’ve been to Greece once, twice or fifty times, I’m almost certain you’ll wanna go back and see so much more. Well, this is what always happens to me in Greeceat least.

That’s why I wanted to share some of the best islands in Greece you should think of visiting.

best beaches in lefkada greece
Porto Katsiki Beach

Lefkada is a beautiful island in the Ionian Sea on the west coast of Greece. The island has a connection to the mainland by a causeway. Lefkada is known for its beautiful beaches, colorful villages and the bluest water ever.

Lefkada is very famous for ist beaches! The beaches are sandy, with turquoise water, surrounded by wildly beautiful nature. You are going to fall in love with those sandy beaches.

I can recommend you these beautiful places:

Porto Katsiki Beach

Probably the most famous beach in Lefkada. Porto Katsiki Beach is
located on the south west coaes of the island. It is beautiful, but it
can get very crowded during July and August. Therefore you need to get there early in the morning or later in the afternoon if you want to get a good position as this beach is very famous and lots of tourists want to
visit it. Porto Katsiki Beach is one of the top 10 beaches in Lefkada.

It’s a pebble beach, not a sandy beach,

but this makes it more interesting. You may also need to have water
shoes because there are pebbles. There is a parking, but it’s paid- 10€ per car. The road to the beach is fascinaitng, with a lot of spots
to make a panorama pictures.

The beach is surrounded by
incredible hills which make it accessible only by 80 steep steps
descending along the cliff. Remember to purchase food and drinks before you descend all the stairs…going back up under the hot sun can be challenging. This beach is just a must see in Lefkada. You can also visit by boat. Beware of rocks falling! Keep a safe distance from the cliffs.

Lefkada Kalamitsi Beach
This beach is also located on the west coast of Lefkada. The road is extremely dangerous, but if you manage to continue till the end of the road, you will be rewarded with a magnificent view! There is a tavern right in front of the beach and the food is great. I think Kalamitsi beach is one of the most amazing beaches. The interesting part is that because of the heavy winter the waves crash on the cliffs and move
massive stones and change the whole beach! I recommend not to swim very far of the shore! The current are strong and do not forgive mistakes.
Egremni Beach
Egremni is a remote beach located on the south west coast of Lefkada.  It will blow you away with crystal clear turquoise water and pebbles. Unfortunately the beach is not accessible after a big earthquake a couple of years ago. You can still visit by boat!
You can go to Nidri and take a boat tour -it takes 1,5 hours to reach the beach and it should be about 20- 25€ per person and it’s worth every penny. No tavern around! Bring your own food, drinks and umbrella.
Do not get close to the cliffside as rocks are still falling.
Kathisma Beach

This is a great location, easy ti get to.  No surrounding high cliffs, but also very beautiful. Kathisma Beach is one of the top Lefkada beaches. You can get there by bus from Lefkas Town if you don’t have a car. There are a lot of sunbeds that are free of charge if you purchase something. There are also paid sunbeds that are not in the restaurant, I think they cost 9€. The water is absolutely gorgeous and the sunset is very romantic. The sea can get very wavy and has a tendency to pull you in. So you need to be a confident swimmer.

Agios Nikitas Village
A lovely small village with a sweet clean beach. There are a lot of taverns with delicious food.
Sivota Village
Another small beautiful village with a harbour and nice taverns around the water. There is no beach.

Crete ist the largest island of Greece and it has everything from fine-sand pink beaches at Elafonisi to the White Mountains. The Ideon Cave was the birthplace of Zeus, according to Greek mythology. The Island is large with so many amazing places and it’s not really possible to see everything in just one vacation!
The island has mesmerising secret beaches to explore, rugged mountain peaks with snow, breathtaking big cities and traditional villages with goats and donkeys. Falassarna Beach is one of the best beaches to visit in Greece.

In Crete there are miles of olive trees and vineyards, palm trees, and desert-like landscapes. There are mesmerising Byzantine churches and monasteries, many of which are open to visitors. There are ancient ruins scattered everywhere. Everything that should be seen in Greece can be found here.

best things to see in athens

Athens is capital of greece and the heart of Ancient Greece, a powerful civilization and empire from the past.
A must see is the Acropolis, a hilltop citadel topped with ancient buildings like the colonnaded Parthenon temple. The Acropolis Museum, along with the National Archaeological Museum, preserves sculptures, vases, jewelry and more from Ancient Greece.
The Acropolis is of course one of the best places to see in Athens.
Athens contains the remains of several ancient buildings of great architectural and historic significance.
Athens can be pretty hot during the day, but mornings and late afternoons are fine. But it would be best if you don’t visit in August.

Mykonos-the party animal of the greek islands. Mykonos is an island  in the Aegean Sea. It’s popularly known for its summer parties. The beach bars play music. Massive dance clubs attract world-renowned DJs and typically stay open well
past dawn. Iconic landmarks include a row of 16th-century windmills, which sit on a hill above Mykonos town.
It’s a beautiful place, but not suited for a relaxed quiet vacation.
If you seek quiet and peaceful, you should go to Kefalonia!

Damn Delicious Greek Salad

Kefalonia is my abosolute favorite island! It’s quiet, peaceful and stunningly beautiful.
Kefalonia is located in the Ionian Sea, west of mainland Greece. It’s has sandy coves and dry rugged landscapes. Its capital, Argostoli, is built on a hillside overlooking a narrow harbor. Kefalonia’s coastline is made up of limestone cliffs, bays and short strips of white sand, like Myrtos Beach in the north. Many beaches are only accessible on foot or via narrow twisting roads.
The greek food is delicious as always :))
Are you asking yourself are the beaches in Kefalonia sandy? Yes they are.
Some beaches are so wild and untouched, surrounded by sheer cliffs and turquoise waters. Some of the beaches are sandy, but there are also some pretty amazing pebble beaches. Like Myrtos Beach for an example.

Kefalonia is great for a romantic/honeymoon vacation for couples.
Kefalonia is one of the main reasons why Greece is the best country with the most amazin islands!
