We got the amazing opportunity to go to Crete in the beginning of June 2018 and it was so much fun. I’ve been waiting SO long for this trip. I had my big exams in the second half of 2017, so there was no time for a real vacation. I want to see all of the greek islands, but Crete was on the top of my list. We had a family trip to Thasos a couple of years ago and it was really beautiful. There I fell in love with Greece. Back in the day I even had a book called „275 Greek Islands“ and since then I am dreaming to visit them all!
Crete, Greece’s largest island, was the birthplace of Zeus, according to Greek mythology.
On Crete there are 2 airports and we had to decide at which airport to land. There are Heraklion (the capital) and Chania. So I researched where the best beaches were and choosed Chania.
Since we both hate mass tourism and don’t want to spend our vacation in a hotel with a bunch of german grandmothers, we decided to rent an AirBnb. It was pretty great- a beautiful cozy appartment in the city. As always we rented a car, drove all around the island and visited some pretty amazing beaches.
The food in Greece is spectacular! There was this small tavern in Chania called Avli with the most delicious food ever. We ate dinner there almost every evening.
